The Car’s Story:
This car is the first Lincoln-Zephyr Continental prototype (one of two) and was completed on October 3, 1939. If it had a Body Number Tag (it doesn t, car #3 was the first with a tag) it would read 06H-56-1.
The car was shipped to New York City and appeared at the 1940 Ford Style Show at the Hotel Astor from October 15 through October 22. It was shown in Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland before appearing in Atlanta from December 13 to December 16 to be used in the festivities around the premier of the movie Gone With The Wind (see videos below).
The car disappeared from view for nearly 20 years before resurfacing in Arizona in 1961. It passed through four owners before being purchased by Merv Adkins in 1995. He, with the assistance of Dave Cole, uncovered its significance, and Merv began a long-term restoration, which is nearing completion.
